Poly Butylene Terephthalate (PBT) Compounds & Granules

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT, PTMT) is a thermoplastic. It is one of the polyesters and has properties similar to those of semi-crystalline polyethylene terephthalate (PET), but is more suitable for injection molding because of its more favorable cooling and processing behavior.

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) compound is widely used because of its high performance strength, rigidity, very high dimensional stability (significantly better than those of POM or PA) and good friction.

As a PBT materials manufacturer, we provide PBT in the form of PBT compounds, stock shapes, and, upon request, PBT Granules. They are small, plastic pellets derived from the polymerization of terephthalic acid and butanediol. This combination results in a robust, semi-crystalline thermoplastic known for its exceptional: Mechanical Strength, Heat Resistance, Chemical Resistance and Electrical Insulating Properties. PBT is well suited for the manufacture of a wide range of components. As a result, we provide a variety of additional processing techniques. PBT material can be machined or extruded into PBT profiles at Bakelite Engineering, depending on the application.

Beyond the Basics: Key Considerations When Choosing PBT Granules

While PBT granules offer a multitude of benefits, selecting the right type for your specific application is crucial. Here are some factors to consider:

  • Grade: Manufacturers offer various PBT grades, each tailored for specific performance needs. Consider factors like flame retardancy, impact resistance, and UV resistance.
  • Color and Finish: PBT granules come in a variety of colors and finishes, allowing you to achieve the desired aesthetics for your end product.
  • Processing Methods: Injection molding is the most common process for PBT granules, but extrusion and blow molding might also be suitable depending on the application.
